Complementary Therapy
So called because it is used to 'complement' medical treatment. In other words, it can be used alongside other more coventional treatments. For instance, if you are very stressed out at work and are not sleeping properly as a result. Your G.P may prescribe you a sleeping tablet for a couple of weeks to help you. However, if you also use a 'complementary therapy' alongside this, it will enable you to relax better. It will also help remove tension build up from your muscles and will reduce any pain from the muscular tension.
If you had a physical illness you may seek treatment from your doctor. However, if you use a complementary therapy as well, you place your body in the best position to help heal itself. Complementary therapies can reduce symptoms and lessen pain.
If you have emotional issues, you may seek counselling to deal with these issues. However, if you also use a complementary therapy, it will help you to cope better with emotional issues. It can also enable you to unblock issues that can otherwise take longterm counselling to uncover. It can also help you to cope when highly emotional issues when they do come up. Complementary therapy can help you to maintain a sense of peace/calm during these difficult phases in your counselling.
